From Soul with Love
What does it mean to show up truly authentically and why we need more love in our lives and becoming Powerful Beyond Measure
I’ve been writing a lot about Love recently on my blog. However, the more I wrote about the more I came back to the quote I reference below and how it is an invitation to live authentically from love and how that message needed to be spread. So I put my thoughts together and wrote on love.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~ Marianne Williamson
I don’t know how many times I have read that quote, heard it repeated to me, or used it in my daily life. Most of the time it was used as a way to justify that I belonged in a place or could outwork someone and prove that I belonged somewhere. Occasionally, it was used as motivation to start believing in myself and take a leap of faith and to understand that I am powerful beyond measure, that I was capable. But that understanding of that quote was misguided. I didn’t fully grasp it, but once I grasped it everything in life started getting easier. Life made a lot more sense. Life became a lot more authentic.
So to truly understand that quote we have to realize that Love is the opposite of fear. So when Marianne Williamson says our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. She isn’t talking about our fear of becoming and being something great. She is talking about the fear that comes from fully expressing ourselves. Because full expression, from and with love, allows us to be powerful beyond measure.
Fear is the ego talking and getting in the way. It is the questioning and hesitation and worry around others’ perception of us. It’s the worry that something has to be perfect. That we need to have a certain number of followers or a certain degree or a certification in order to be worthy of something. The fear is our brain trying to protect us, because our brain doesn’t want to experience the hurt or the rejection or the emptiness that comes when we express ourselves and the feeling is reciprocated or worse yet it isn’t even acknowledged.
But when we live in fear we are living with our hearts hiding. Nothing good comes from living with our hearts and souls not expressed. The problem is it is easy to give into fear. It is hard to face our shortcomings, flaws, and fears and say “not today.” Someone needs to do that. True courage comes from facing the fear and living the way we want to anyways. Martin Luther King said exactly this “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it, The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
Courage is the choice to show up with and from love even though it is scary and forces us to face our fears. How many of us have dimmed our own light because we were scared how others might see us if we fully expressed and showed up. How many of us decided not to speak up out of fear and hesitation. Every time we did that we choose to let fear win. We chose to let love sit one out. Nothing good comes from you shrinking towards fear.
Love is everything fear isn’t and that’s what makes it so powerful. I am not just talking about romantic love, but love as a whole. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. ” There’s a reason this is said at every wedding. Love is steady and powerful. When love flows through us, life gets easier.
When we act and show up in and from love, life gets easier, our friendships get easier and the interactions we have with one another gets easier. We don’t have to force what we want out of life because we are authentically living it and have created a life that we truly desire. Love is much more than romance. It is the decision to face fear and fully show up regardless of what life throws at us.
Love is the grounding force that allows us to live authentically and by doing that we become powerful beyond measure.
Being powerful beyond measure comes from when we live authentically from the soul. Because living authentically from the soul is how we shine the most. It’s living unafraid of being hurt and expressing ourselves wholeheartedly in everything that we do. It’s an expression of love that goes beyond romance. It is showing up even though it is scary and hard and pushing through on those not so good days and choosing love even when it is hard and it is easier to shrink towards fear.
Powerful beyond measure and authentic living happens when we choose to life with love everyday regardless of what life throws at us.
